As a part of cloud compatability poc , i did a POC on delta cloud.
Delta-cloud is an API was
initiated and developed by Red Hat and is now a project
hosted at the Apache Software Foundation that abstracts
differences between clouds.
The DeltaCloud API provides a single
API interface and
drivers to work with multiple IaaS
(Infrastructure-as-a-Service)
cloud computing providers.
Apache Delta-cloud currently
supports many back-end cloud providers.
The back-end drivers communicating
with each cloud provider's native API and the Delta-cloud Core
Framework provides the basis for implementing drivers to new
IaaS clouds.
Deltacloud API supports the
following providers:
- Amazon EC2
- GoGrid
- OpenNebula
- Rackspace
- RHEV-M (Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization - Manager)
- RimuHosting.
For
Overview?
- Is an open source Apache project
- Is a REST-based API for simple any-platform and any-cloud access.
- Is written in Ruby
- Comes with client libraries for our favorite programming language
What
does Delta-cloud give you?
- An opportunity to manage cloud instances the way you want
- A way to protect our apps from cloud API changes and incompatibilities
- Three front-ends: 'classic' Delta-cloud, DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force) CIMI (Cloud Infrastructure Management Interface), and EC2
- support for all major cloud service providers
- makes it easy for cloud providers to add their cloud
